Kt Kingtronics Introduce Selection for MLCC

There are many factors that need to be considered when selecting capacitors. The following discusses the capacitor selection elements of MLCC. MLCC selection: Just meeting the parameters is not enough.
The general decision-making logic for purchasing a product is: whether it can be used, whether it is easy to use, whether it is durable, and the price. In fact, this logic can also be applied to the selection process of MLCC: firstly, the MLCC parameters must meet the circuit requirements, and secondly, whether the parameters and media can make the system work in the optimal state;
Besides, is there any defective product in the incoming MLCC and how reliable is it; Finally, is there an advantage in price and is the supplier's cooperation timely. Many design engineers do not attach importance to passive components, thinking that only theoretical calculation of parameters is sufficient. In fact, the selection of MLCC is a complex process, and it is not simply satisfying the parameters.

Selection Elements
-Parameters: capacitance value, tolerance, withstand voltage, operating temperature, size
-DC bias effect
-Price and Supply

The performance of different media determines the different applications of MLCC
-C0G capacitors have high temperature compensation characteristics and are suitable for use as bypass capacitors and coupling capacitors
-The X7R capacitor is a temperature stable ceramic capacitor, suitable for industrial applications with low requirements
-The Z5U capacitor is characterized by its small size and low cost, making it particularly suitable for application in decoupling circuits
-Y5V capacitor has the worst temperature characteristic, but its capacity is large, which can replace the low capacitance Aluminum electrolytic capacitor

MLCC commonly uses different media specifications such as C0G (NP0), X7R, Z5U, Y5V, etc. Different specifications have different characteristics and applications. The main difference between C0G, X7R, Z5U, and Y5V is their different filling media. Under the same volume, the capacity of capacitors composed of different filling media varies, resulting in different dielectric losses and capacity stability. Therefore, when using capacitors, different capacitors should be selected based on their different functions in the circuit.
